Adrift
As I drink & inch closer to the bottom of the glass
Like a glass bottom boat we float
& see the world through a watery haze
Or maybe tears my eyes they glaze,
& days like this grow ever more
For time does not heal of that I’m sure,
Nor comfort do these memories bring
Or light with joy the dark within,
It’s sink or swim, what choice to make
When neither will my soul awake,
From such depths it can’t be reached
By land, nor sea, nor bible preached
So once again I nonchalantly refill
And swallow amber liquid til
I inch closer to the bottom of the glass
And like a glass bottom boat we float
And see the world through a watery haze
Or maybe tears my eyes they glaze
For days like this grow ever more
And time will not heal of that I’m sure
